My career in the retail industry started five years ago in the Philippines. This was when I joined a luxury retail company as part of their human resources (HR) management group. As days went by, I learned the ropes of the business, and eventually, fell in love with it and its people. I had a deeper understanding of it when I moved from human resources to executive recruitment in 2014. As executive search consultant, I chose to still focus on retail and luxury practice, the industry that is very close to my heart.

It is fun being in retail. It is a very dynamic industry and there are so many career options to choose from.
Let me walk you through the possible careers in retail. Retail is for the creative and entrepreneurial types. It involves business, marketing, customer service, and more. Some of the career options that retail can offer would be roles in brand management, creatives, and store operations.
- Pursue a career in brand management and get the chance to handle known brands that you love. As brand manager you will serve as the steward of the brand. You will make sure that your brand will stay strong and alive.
- If you are the creative type, you might find visual merchandising very interesting. Visual Merchandisers are the people behind those eye-catching store designs and product displays that you see.
- If you like people, and you want to experience running a store, explore a career in operations.
I’ve been doing retail and luxury recruiting for many years now. Representing several global brands is a delight. Above all, fulfilling one’s dream of working for their favorite brand is priceless.
